Ok a learning object provides learning through interaction/activity and a social object is a topic, theme, area of interest that people interact/communicate about.
Example:
Learning Object:
Title: Where is the Party at? - Alcohol
Competency: 21251VIC - General Education for Adults
Education Level: Certificate II
Type: Digital
Cost: Free

Social Object: People may be interested in communicating about the consumption of alchol by teenagers. Therefore the social object would be "teenage drinking".
I hope I am on the right track??? What do you think???

I am not sure about the differences.
A learning object does not seem to have to have a social component to it. If it did have a social component, then surely it can be labelled as a social object.
A social object does not have to have learning objectives, though if it was used in schools, it would have to have learning objectives. Right?
As we are in an educational setting, there does not seem to be much point in having these different labels. A learning object can be social and a social object can have learning outcomes.
As you can tell, I am unsure about what they mean. Perhaps I am reading too much into it...
As I see it, social objects are those that involve some kind of interaction with other people, such as chat rooms.
These can also be learning objects as learning can occur. This is in the same way that in the real world many kinds of social interaction can involve learning.
